Assistance With Restraining Orders and Civil Restraints

Family law problems are complicated matters that intertwine conflicted personal relationships with their legal implications. Allegations of domestic violence in a relationship can add more complexity to your divorce or other family law dispute.

Whether you are a victim of domestic violence or have been accused of committing an act of domestic violence, the attorneys at Ulrichsen Rosen & Freed LLC can provide experienced representation. Our  domestic violence attorneys can help with restraining orders, civil restraints and advise clients on how violence or allegations of violence can affect a New Jersey divorce or other family law proceedings.

Protecting Yourself After Domestic Violence

Under the law in New Jersey, domestic violence can occur between people who are:

  • Married
  • Separated
  • Divorced
  • Living in the same household currently or in the past
  • Dating or have previously dated
  • Parents of the same child

Victims of domestic violence have options for protecting themselves from their abusers. Our law firm helps clients both apply for and challenge restraining orders or protection orders. The provisions in restraining orders vary from case to case, but they often prohibit an alleged abuser from having contact with an alleged victim or from entering the alleged victim’s home. In addition, custody and parenting-time issues can be included in a restraining order.

Domestic Violence Litigation

The attorneys at Ulrichsen Rosen & Freed, LLC firm can assist clients through the entire process of resolving a domestic violence issue. We will prepare evidence for a hearing during which the court asks questions of the plaintiff who is requesting the order. If the order is granted, the plaintiff will receive a temporary restraining order (TRO) pending a final hearing. During the final hearing, a judge will hear from both parties and determine whether to issue a final restraining order (FRO). A final restraining order is permanent and does not expire. Our lawyers can represent you during these hearings and guide you through the process whether you are the plaintiff or the defendant.

When we represent clients  on domestic violence-related matters, we will also advise them on whether domestic violence matters  will have an impact on any family law proceedings. If you are being abused or accused of abusing a partner or family member, contact us for more information on how your divorce or custody matter may be affected.
